It always makes me marvel when novelists write, complete and publish novels at an early age. Take the Bronte sisters, for instance. Emily died of tuberculosis at age 30 after writing Wuthering Heights. Anne died at 29 of the same disease. Charlotte (Jane Eyre) lived longest, but still died young at 39.
Today we’re unlikely to die of tuberculosis at 29, (more likely to be hit by a car driven by someone texting on a cell phone). We still never know how much time we have. Instead of waiting for wisdom to write a novel, or instead of waiting for the “right time,” just use the wisdom you have. The time you have is now.
Some literature scholars muse at how extraordinary it was to have so much talent concentrated in one family. Talent, yes, but I like to think of the Bronte novelists as action-minded writers. They simply took the time to write and pour out their unique vision and worked at it until it was good. Really good.
So for some lighthearted fun, here are the Brontes depicted as superpower action figures. What do you think?
